The Sacrament of Baptism is often called “the door of the Church,” because it is the first of the seven sacraments not only in time (since most Catholics receive it as infants) but in priority, since the reception of the other sacraments depends on it.
Once baptized, a person becomes a member of the Church – and not just in this parish, but of the whole Catholic church worldwide.
Baptism is the first of seven sacraments and the way in which a person becomes a member of the Catholic Church. Baptism pardons sins, recues us from the powers of darkness, and gives us dignity as children of God. For these reasons, the church encourages Baptism as soon as possible after birth. Infants and children under age seven may be baptized with the consent of at least one parent. For Baptism of those aged seven years and older, including adults please see section titled “Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults”.
If you would like to have your child baptized please call the Parish Office a minimum of one month before you would like to have your child baptized. A copy of the child’s Birth Certificate, including parents’ names, must be presented upon registration and before any date is set. Parents will also be required to set up a time with the priest for Baptismal preparation.
Please be aware that Godparents must be practising Catholics. They are considered by the Church to be important models and teachers in the faith life of the baptized person. Only one Godparent is required. However, if two are named, they must be male and female. If one of the parties is not Catholic, they would be designated as a witness rather than a Godparent.
Note: If you reside in another parish and desire to have your child baptized at Blessed Sacrament, you must have permission from your local parish priest to do so. This is Archdiocesan policy.
